ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - It was a wait and see night for thousands at Balloon Fiesta Park’s July 4th celebration.
As the rain rolled through many wondered if there would be any fireworks at all.
"I love rain…its just I never get to play in it,” Deysean Fuentes said.
The show got underway just after 9:15 p.m. Wednesday and the rain didn't put a damper on anyone's good time.
"We brought our umbrella just in case but either way its going to be a good time you know what I mean,” Trumaine Pikney said. “The clouds aren’t going to mess up the good time that we fixing to have."
Tens of thousands came out to Balloon Fiesta Park to enjoy their families, food and even a game of football.
Parents say this is the perfect and maybe the safest place to celebrate.
"I don't have to worry about my son getting burned trying to have fun and you know there's a lot of people out here to have fun with," Terry Edmon said.
The fireworks lasted 30 minutes and organizers say there were no hiccups.
A city spokesperson says this year's event cost the city $145,000.
Once they factor in money made from parking they expect the total to drop to about $80,000.
