"Breaking Bad" deals wardrobe to aid shelter

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Some of the clothing was just as memorable as the characters of “Breaking Bad,” and fans flocked to a local shelter that was given the rights to selling some of the clothing used by cast members.

Who could forget Bryan Cranston's character Walter White's dingy tighty-whities or his cardigan sweaters, and how about Jessie Pinkman's hoodies?

There was no guarantee those items would be at a big sale of “Breaking Bad” clothing Wednesday held at Joy Junction, but that didn’t stop a lot of fans from waiting in a long line for hours to find out.

Joy Junction CEO Jeremy Reynalds said some fans had stood in line since 9 a.m. even though the doors did not open until 2 p.m.

Show executives donated six boxes of clothes to the shelter. Reynalds said no matter what was in the piles he knew it would sell.

“Fans of show will have seen the show and see a particular item.  'Wow! I recognize this guy from that episode, and he was wearing this,'” Reynalds said.

As fans filed into the main room it didn't take long for some items to catch their eye.

Dave Layman found a nude tank top that he believed could have been worn by a key character on the show.

“I think this is what Skylar wore," Dave Layman said. “If it is, that's pretty cool.”

Skylar is Walter White's wife on the show. Was it her top? Layman said there's a chance it was, and he's taking it.

As the final season of "Breaking Bad" wraps up it may be the last time some of the clothing here will be seen.

Reynalds said they have been bombarded with e-mails of people asking the shelter to put the items online. He said they may do that but he wanted to give Albuquerque residents first dibs on the items.

Reynalds said the TV show "In Plain Sight," which also filmed in Albuquerque, gave Joy Junction cast clothing to sell when it went off the air.
