Back-to-school tax free holiday

During the holiday the law provides a deduction from gross reciepts for retail sales allowing retailers to sell items "tax free".

Some items on the list of taxable/nontaxable itmes have set dollar amounts: $100 or less for clothing or shoes, $1000 limit on computers (related hardware has $500 limit) and $15 limit for standard, general-education supplies.

Tax List for your iPod

What you need
An iPod with a screen, except the iPod touch or iPhone, and a Dock connector (a connection using a long, narrow rectangle on the bottom of the iPod). (For an iPhone or iPod touch, see below.)

Note: These instructions assume you are using the most recent version of iTunes, which you can download on Apple's Web site .

How-to:

1. Click here to download and save TaxList.zip .
2. Open the file.
3. Open iTunes and put your iPod into disk mode. To do this, choose your iPod on the left side of the iTunes screen. Then, choose the General tab and check the "Enable Disk Use" box.
4. Minimize or hide iTunes. From here, open your iPod as a disk. In Windows, open "My Computer" on the desktop or in the Start menu, then open the icon with a similar name to your iPod. On a Mac, double-click the iPod icon on your desktop.
5. Open the Notes folder on your iPod.
6. From the ZIP file you downloaded in Step 1, copy the folder inside as-is into the Notes folder you just opened.
7. Go back to iTunes and uncheck the "Enable Disk Use" box.

The content is now on your iPod. To access it on your iPod, choose the "Extras" menu, then "Notes," then the folder. Open the first file in there. To exit, press the Menu button.

Tax list for your iPhone or iPod Touch

You can save the list to your device so you won't need Internet access later. Here's how:

1. If you're using an iPod touch, connect to a Wi-Fi network. iPhone users can skip this step.
2. Open Safari and visit http://sn.im/taxlist
3. Touch the link on that page.
4. Touch the + button at the bottom of the screen and choose "Add to Home Screen." Follow the instructions on your device.

Then, all you need to do is touch the "Tax Holiday" icon on your home screen to see the list.
