Recently a furniture store where I purchased bedroom furniture took a photocopy of my check and my driver's license. In the age of id theft I was really concerned about the photocopy of my driver's license. Is this legal?

A store is allowed to set its policy to insure identity of the purchasers. Your remedy is not to do business with stores that have policies that make you uncomfortable.
