Being a native New Mexican I am very happy to be working here at home and being a part of KRQE News 13.

I grew up in Belen, went on to study journalism at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces and after a short time working in Lubbock and El Paso came back home in 1999 and joined the KRQE News 13 team. While I've served a number of roles here, I now anchor the 4pm newscast and focus my reporting on our New Mexico works segment which highlights things that are working well in our state.

Another passion of mine is to bring to attention to the problem of child abuse in our state. The story of Brianna Lopez of Dona Ana has become a lightning point for change in our state. While her death helped prompt change in our laws New Mexico continues to have a big problem with child abuse. I was honored to receive an Emmy award for the story I did on baby Brianna in 2008. That process helped her story reach people across the world and has brought a renewed demand for change.

The best part of my job is meeting new people everyday and being able to tell their stories. I often find the people I meet know my family or remember me from my hometown, which is always a joy. I look forward to spending many more years here at KRQE.

My husband, three kids and I recently moved to the East Mountains and in the winter that means there is a lot of snow shoveling but we love it!
