Anchor, 13 On Special Assignment Reporter

Dean Staley is a native of Albuquerque. He is the principal anchor and special assignment reporter for KRQE News 13 at 9pm (on 2 KASA FOX).

Staley came to Albuquerque from KING 5 News in Seattle where he was an anchor and reporter, before that Staley worked as a weekend anchor and reporter in Minneapolis, MN. During that time Staley was embedded for three months with the Army’s 101st Airborne Division, covering the war in Iraq. Staley also served as correspondent for ABC News based in Atlanta, Ga.

Staley is the recipient of three prestigious Edward R. Murrow awards, one in the ‘Best Documentary’ category for “Rock Bottom,” one for his coverage of the Iraq War, and one for breaking the story days before the 2004 presidential election of unguarded explosives at the Al QaQa weapons facility in Iraq. He has also been awarded eleven Emmys. Staley has won a First Place Page One award for Magazine News Feature from the Society of Professional Journalists.

Staley has written articles for the London Sunday Telegraph, The Seattle Times, Twin Cities Business Monthly, and The Rake magazine. He also has a chapter in the book “Embedded” about his time in Iraq.

Staley has also worked as a consultant in Karachi, Pakistan and Dubai, U.A.E., training journalists for the Pakistani television network GEO-TV.

Staley graduated from Boston University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast journalism and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. Prior to the start of his broadcast career, Staley spent two years in the Peace Corps, where he taught beekeeping and soil conservation to subsistence farmers in Paraguay, South America.
